The Maxwell Mansion, est 1856, in Lake Geneva, WI is a secluded haven for travelers in the heart of the charming downtown.  Set on 1.5 manicured acres of gardens less than two blocks to the lake, this boutique hotel it is a true escape.  Built as the personal home to one of Chicago and Lake Geneva's founding fathers, Dr. Phillip Maxwell, the property has hosted dignitaries and socialites for generations. The entire estate along with all its buildings have undergone a complete metamorphosis retaining its original character yet exploding with excitement of the new, the unique and the unexpected.

What it's like

Two blocks east of the lake, you'll find the Italianate-style Mansion, nestled among century-old oak trees and picturesque gardens. The property features much more than the Mansion itself with over 28 rooms and multiple event spaces between three buildings on the property. Each building has its own distinctive style.  In the Historic Mansion, you'll find six rooms with old-world sophistication. Book a room in the Carriage House for a modern equestrian-styled experience. And finally the Stable Suites blend luxurious and dramatic finishes to provide the most decadent stay.

Small touches

Each room at the estate is unique, so you can experience a different side of Maxwell Mansion each time you return. Depending on your room type, you'll get to soak in luxury in either a clawfoot tub, a steam shower for two, or a whirlpool Jacuzzi tub. Afterward, enjoy deluxe bathrobes, high-end bath products, and luxe linens. All the rooms have air-conditioning to keep you cool and WiFi to keep you connected. 

Eat and drink

Travel back in time to the 1880s Apothecary Bar (a tribute to the original owner Dr. Philip Maxwell), where drinks are uniquely crafted for every guest. The large glass pane windows of the Apothecary overlook the garden lounge with several outdoor fireplaces and a bocce ball court. Guests and locals-in-the-know can access the hotel's subterranean Speakeasy—be sure to get the secret password at check-in.  In the summer, take advantage of the Terrace Lounge & Tiki Bar for outdoor cocktails. For breakfast, lunch and dinner, you'll find plenty of options in the area. The Mansion staff is happy to point you to their favorite local spots.

Cancellation policy

CANCELLATIONS: A cancellation fee of $50 or a change fee of $25 applies to reservations modified/canceled at least 15 days prior to arrival. Within 15 days, the entire prepaid amount will be forfeited as a cancellation fee. INITIAL DEPOSIT: A minimum deposit of one night's room rate (plus tax and service fee) is required to secure any reservation and will automatically be charged to your credit card upon making a reservation. Reservations booked online for more than one night require a 50% deposit for the total charges of the stay. Some rates and offers may have different policies requiring an additional deposit. FINAL DEPOSIT: Fourteen (14) days prior to your arrival, a non-refundable prepayment for the remaining nights of your stay is required and will be charged to the credit card on file automatically. RESERVATION CHANGES: Changes requested prior to 14 days of arrival are subject to hotel availability and rates as of your change date. A $25 fee per room will apply to any change. Date Changes requested within 14 days, including shortening your stay, will be handled on a case-by-case basis; all change fees and current rates will apply.

The facility features state-of-the-art dedicated fiber internet, upgraded Wi-Fi service, and an events team that is dedicated to making your event a success. Groups have the option to book all 28 rooms and meeting spaces for the completely private use of this magnificent 1.5-acre property.
